A cracked screen is the most common phone repair in Ghana. One slip at the trotro station or one drop on a tiled floor and the glass is finished. The good news is that most screens can be replaced the same day. The question is how much you should pay, and what quality of screen you are actually getting.
Screen replacement prices in Ghana (2026)
- Tecno (Spark, Pop, Camon): GHC 250 to GHC 600
- Infinix (Smart, Hot, Note): GHC 250 to GHC 650
- Samsung A-series: GHC 400 to GHC 900
- Samsung S-series and Fold: GHC 1,200 to GHC 3,500+
- iPhone 11 to 13: GHC 900 to GHC 2,000+, newer models cost more
Curved and AMOLED screens cost more than flat LCD screens. Foldable phones are the most expensive of all because the inner screen is delicate and hard to source.
Only the glass cracked, or the whole display?
Look closely. If the picture is still clear and touch works, only the top glass may be cracked. If you see black patches, coloured lines, flickering, or parts of the screen do not respond, the display underneath is damaged too. Most modern phones have the glass and display fused together, so in both cases you usually replace the full screen unit, but the second case is more urgent.
Original vs compatible screens
This is the biggest reason two shops quote very different prices. An original or OLED screen matches the colours, brightness and battery use of the factory screen. A cheaper compatible (often called incell or LCD) screen may look dull, be thicker, drain the battery faster and lose the fingerprint-under-display feature. Our guide to LCD vs OLED replacement screens explains the difference in detail.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Is this screen original, OLED or compatible?
- Does the price include the frame and labour?
- Will fingerprint and face unlock still work?
- What warranty do you give, and what does it cover?
- Can I test touch, brightness and the camera before I pay the balance?
When a new phone makes more sense
A simple rule: if the screen repair costs more than about half of what your phone is worth today, think about upgrading. Paying GHC 700 to fix a phone that would only sell for GHC 1,000 is rarely a good deal, especially if the battery is also weak.
Tough phones that handle Ghana life, from Simcel
- Tecno Spark 50C: built tough with IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance, a smooth 6.78″ 120Hz display and a 5200mAh battery.
- itel Power 80: 2m military-grade drop resistance and a 7000mAh battery for people who are hard on their phones.
- Samsung Galaxy A17 5G (4GB RAM + 128GB): a sharp 6.7″ Super AMOLED display, IP54 protection and up to 6 years of Android upgrades.
Whatever phone you choose, add a good case and tempered glass protector on day one. A protector costs a small fraction of a new screen.
FAQ
How long does a screen replacement take?
Most Android screens take 1 to 3 hours. Phones with curved screens or glued frames can take longer.
Can I keep using a cracked phone screen?
For a short time, if touch works. But cracks spread, glass splinters can cut your fingers, and dust or water can get inside. Fix it soon.
