How to Price Phones and Accessories for Real Profit

Written by

·

Many phone shops are busy every day but still struggle to make money. The usual reason is pricing by guesswork. Here is a simple way to price for real profit.

The margin formula

  • Total cost = supplier price + transport + your share of costs like rent, electricity, and staff
  • Profit = selling price − total cost
  • Margin % = (profit ÷ selling price) × 100

Worked example (illustration only)

You buy a phone for GHS 1,550, and transport adds GHS 50, so your total cost is GHS 1,600. You sell it for GHS 1,700. Your profit is GHS 100, a margin of about 6%.

The lesson: price phones competitively because customers compare phone prices, and earn your profit on accessories, bundles, and services.

Pricing tips that protect your profit

  • Check competitor prices in your area every month.
  • Avoid deep discounts. Add value instead, such as a free screen protector.
  • Review prices whenever the cedi moves, because your restock cost changes.
  • Bundle phones with accessories to raise the value of every sale.

Know your real monthly profit

At the end of each month, take your total sales, subtract the cost of the goods you sold, then subtract all expenses: rent, light, staff, transport, and data. What is left is your real profit. If you don’t know this number, you don’t know whether your business is working.
