Tecno, Infinix and itel are all owned by the same parent company, Transsion, and are designed and priced for African buyers: long battery life, dual SIM, strong selfie cameras and affordable prices. For most new phone shops in Ghana, they are the backbone of phone sales. But stocking them well takes a plan.
Stock in three price tiers
- Entry tier: the most affordable smartphones, such as Tecno Spark, Infinix Smart and itel models. These are usually your fastest movers.
- Middle tier: better cameras and more storage, such as Tecno Camon and Infinix Hot and Note. Good profit and steady demand.
- Upper tier: top models such as Tecno Phantom and Infinix Zero, plus Samsung and iPhone if your capital allows. Stock these carefully because they tie up a lot of cash.
How much to stock
- Start with more entry- and middle-tier units and only 1 or 2 upper-tier units per model.
- Track what sells in your first 30 days and reorder based on real sales, not guesses.
- It is better to run out and reorder than to sit on phones that are losing value.
Watch the launch cycle
When a new model launches, the previous model’s price usually drops. If you are holding a lot of old stock, you lose money. Before a big order, ask your supplier whether a new model is coming soon, and sell older models first.
Storage and colours
Stock the most popular storage size of each model in two or three popular colours instead of every option.
