Dropped your phone in water? Don’t panic! It’s important to act quickly and carefully to save your device. Here’s a simple guide on what you should do immediately if your phone falls in water.
1. Remove It from Water Quickly
The longer your phone stays submerged, the higher the chance of serious damage. Grab it immediately and turn it off if it’s still on.
2. Power It Off
Even if it seems fine, switch off the phone. Keeping it on can cause a short circuit.
3. Remove Any Accessories
Take off the case, SIM card, memory card, and unplug any accessories. Open all removable parts to let water escape.
4. Dry the Outside Gently
Use a clean, soft cloth or paper towel to gently pat the phone dry. Be careful not to shake or blow air into the device, as this can push water deeper inside.
5. Avoid Common Mistakes
- Don’t use a hairdryer or heat gun – heat can damage the internal parts.
- Don’t put it in the freezer – water inside can freeze and expand, causing more damage.

Be patient. It’s tempting to turn it on, but wait at least 24–48 hours to ensure it’s completely dry.
8. Test the Phone
After waiting, insert the battery (if removable), SIM card, and turn it on. If it doesn’t work, or if you notice unusual behavior (like flickering, poor sound, or overheating), seek professional help immediately.
