In light of recent events and mounting concerns regarding President Akuffo Addo’s promise to safeguard the public purse, the NDC OTI Regional Communication Officer, feel compelled to shed light on the matter for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
He said, During his inaugural ceremony, Akuffo Addo made a solemn pledge to protect the public purse, raising hopes among citizens that he would indeed uphold transparency and accountability in governance. However, it has become apparent that these expectations have been far from met, and the reality seems to be veering in the opposite direction.
The promise of allocating 1 million dollars annually to each Constituency, as made by Akuffo Addo and the NPP, has been a point of contention. While this commitment might have appeared as an opportunity for development, there are growing suspicions that it was potentially intended to serve as a conduit for some appointees to enrich themselves at the expense of hardworking taxpayers.
The emergence of allegations surrounding the ill-gotten wealth of the Sanitation Minister, with attempts by NPP Communicators to justify it based on her affluent family background, has raised serious questions about the source of this unexplained wealth.
He suggests that we must address the expectation of the people, who hoped for a firm stance from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo in dealing with corruption within his government. Instead, the apparent vindication of the corrupt appointee raises alarming questions about the state’s commitment to battling corruption.
He call upon the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and the office of the Special Prosecutor to conduct a comprehensive investigation into these allegations.
The NDC OTI Regional Communication Officer advocates for transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of public resources.
Below is his full Statement:
When Akuffo Addo promised to protect the public purse during his inaugural ceremony, Ghanaians thought he would walk his talk, little did they know that he meant the opposite(stealing the public).
Akuffo Addo and NPP promised every Constituency 1 million dollars every year.
This promise by Akuffo Addo was for his appointees to enrich themselves at the expense of taxpayers.
The NPP Communicators at the broke of the story justified the ill-gotten wealth of the Sanitation Minister as someone coming from a rich family background.
The source of the unexplained stolen wealth of the Minister is yet to be disclosed to Ghanaians who voted for the government with such a corrupt Minister.
As if that was not enough, He, Akuffo Addo accepted the resignation letter from the corrupt appointee of the Sanitation Ministry and praised her for her stewardship.
The expectation of the people was to see Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo reprimanding the corrupt appointee but has chosen to sing praises of her for stealing from the public purse, a clear vindication that, the president himself endorses corruption and waste of public funds.
Again, Akuffo Addo talks about being confident of establishing the lost integrity of Cecilia Daapah, has the president admitted that, such a huge amount of money was genuinely acquired by his appointees and let alone talk of protecting the integrity?? Clearly, Thieves have been voted for to conspire and loot the state coffers of meager resources.
Accepting her resignation without referring her to any state investigative body to carry out a proper inquiry into the source of the huge sums of money she is hoarding under her roof would amount to the president endorsing many of his appointees who for hidden reasons have chosen to keep monies stolen from the state in their homes just to avoid any form of suspicion should they have kept them in their bank accounts.
EOCO must be seen doing a thorough investigation alongside the office of the Special Prosecutor. Loans can’t be acquired in the name of Ghanaians for people to withdraw and hoard in their homes.
