Many companies start the interview with phone interviews to get to know the candidate before the in-person interview. This allows the interviewer to choose the best candidate for the next step in the interview process and saves a lot of time. Some people don’t do well on the phone, so here are some tips to get you one step closer to getting hired!

1. Know the company

If you have a phone interview, research the company that might hire you and their company. Every industry, from construction to mechanical engineering to the environment, has its own focus topic. Learn a few phrases that apply to your new situation so you can work on them during the conversation.

2. Listen!

Most respondents on the phone felt they had to do everything. It’s important to let the other person in line speak. More importantly, you take the time to listen to what the person has to say. The interviewer may test their listening skills as part of the process. Consider repeating something to the interviewer and always waiting until they have read what they are saying before speaking.

3. “Um…”

You know what you’re talking about. If you find yourself needing time to think, avoid the word “um.” Instead, consider a short period of silence. Try to remove all other negative words from your language, such as B. “Like”.

4. Good practice

Before your interview, make sure you practice your answers to possible questions. Interview questions include:

What would you describe as your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

5. Avoid distractions during the interview

Interviews are tough enough. You don’t need distractions. When it’s time for your interview, find a quiet and peaceful place where you’re most welcome. Make sure someone else watches children or pets. You also want to make sure you’re clear-headed, so have your morning cup of coffee first. Finally, close the window to avoid being distracted by outside noise. You want the interlocutor to focus on you and not on the chaos around you.
