The Akuffo Addo failed leadership continue to make systematic efforts of throwing dust into the eyes of the good people of Oti Region particularly the teeming youth.
Since the inauguration of the Oti Region, there has not been any job created for the youth in the region let alone talk of youth empowerment.

The Regional Minister, Hon.Joshua Makubu recently made a remark on the inauguration of what they called Youth Employment Agency’s new ultra- modern office complex and has since praised his employer Akuffo Addo for believing in empowerment and development and has also urged participants to buy into the E- Levy proposal to allow government create more jobs as emulated by YEA.

The remarks by the Oti Regional Minister, Hon.Joshua Makubu was most unfortunate and must be treated with a pinch of salt.

The Oti Regional Minister must know that, the unemployment in this country is on the increase since his employer Akuffo Addo and his government came into office in 2017. So for him to praise Akuffo Addo is mischievous, absurd, immoral and in a bad faith.
The regional minister ought to know that, Ghana’s unemployment rate hit 13.4 percent in 2021, up from 6 percent in 2010 and still counting. Also, he should be reminded that, the youth unemployment rate for 2019 was 8.72%, a 0.06% decline in 2018 which meant, about 15-24 ages bracket of labor force are seeking for employment and cannot find some under Akuffo Addo and his government.

We are putting on records that, the Youth Employment Agency Act,2015(act 887) which was passed by parliament on 11th March, 2015 and assented to by the president, has an objective to develop, coordinate, supervise and facilitate the creation of jobs for the youth in the country. Unfortunately, we the people of Oti Region are seeing the opposite, contrary to what the objective has started.

Ever since Akuffo Addo government took over on 7th January 2017, the Youth Employment Agency has not created nor recruited beneficiaries to already existing modules( Youth in Prison, Community Education Teaching Assistant, Community Health Assistant,Youth in Fire Service, Youth in Afforestation, Paid internship) of beneficiaries.
Again, under the previous system, the module called paid internship has only been enhanced by Akuffo Addo government to what is now called NABCO, whose beneficiaries have been shown an exit while the government is owing them 5 to 6 months arrears . This number of NABCO beneficiaries sacked are also going to add back to the already unemployed youth in the Country.
This is a clear manifestation of a failed Akuffo Addo’s administration of which Oti Region is not exempted.

This would also go a long way to worsen the unemployment rate of Ghanaians particularly the teeming youth in the Country.

The Oti Regional Minister, Hon.Joshua Makubu has got it wrong to have Praised his employer Akuffo Addo and his government since there is no tangible employment opportunities for the youth in the Oti Region let alone talk about any industrialisation drive. We are optimistic and convinced that, Hon.Joshua Makubu’s performance as a minister is indifferent from his predecessor , Hon. Owusu Yeboah who has left a legacy of abysmal performance in the region as a Regional Minister .

It’s also ridiculous for the minister to have urged the participants at the ceremony to support the proposal of the obnoxious E- Levy because, no amount of education can change the minds of the minority group, the good people of Ghana and Oti Region to accept a tax that would further burden their already worsen living conditions.
Again, no amount of education and conviction, can change the minds of Ghanaians to accept a tax on capital and savings.

The Oti Region can only be developed by president H . E John Dramani Mahama because he has done it before and almost all Constituencies have two or three capital projects undertaken by him and his government, a very remarkable and indelible records.

In conclusion, we the good people of Oti Region have lost confidence in our Regional Minister, Hon. Joshua Makubu for supporting the E- Levy proposal by Akuffo Addo government which when passed will further worsen the excruciating hardship Ghanaians are faced with.
