Copywriting, better known as copy, is a technique used for the production of persuasive texts with the objective of catching the reader. Apart from this objective, copy texts seek to generate in people the need to buy a product or hire a service.
As a consequence, sales are increased.
1. Think before writing
Something that seems so obvious but needs to be repeated.
Think about a Facebook, Twitter or even Google Plus update. You have a small space to get a person to make an action: click, respond, share or all at once that would already be the bomb.
Before writing, think about what you want to communicate and don’t get carried away so quickly. You are in a bidirectional conversation, this is not a case of getting up on stage, giving a speech and leaving.
2. Set some objectives and go for them.
What do you want to achieve? With every content you publish you have to have a goal, a strategy.
Remember why your audience is on social networks. It may be for leisure, to find relevant, interesting or inspiring content.
It is much easier to write when you have clear objectives and above all when you have a complete x-ray of the type of audience you have. Your message will be more direct and persuasive because you know better than anyone what they are expecting from you.
3. Don’t be lazy and leave the copy and paste for other things.
Don’t just copy and paste the same update on each of your social profiles. Each social platform is different and the audience that is interacting is not looking for the same content or connecting in the same way.
You have to adapt. If LinkedIn, for example, is characterized by being more distant and professional, on Facebook you can bring out your rogue side and provoke your audience.
Copying and pasting is the easy way to save a few minutes of your day and miss hundreds of interactions. It’s not worth it, it’s boring and it doesn’t say much about your brand. If you act like this, be prepared to go unnoticed.
5. Focus on titles that make an impact
The title has everything to help you achieve that goal or cause the opposite reaction. Along with the accompanying image or video, it is the most important element. By testing you can determine the type of titles that do work in your community.
You must really know what they need and what could capture their attention. This way the person scanning their timeline will feel identified with your message and you will have more chances to achieve your goal.
6. Forget about boring descriptions and use magic words.
Some words work better than others and make your content more shareable. They are words that activate a mechanism in the head of anyone who reads it and guide them to action.
Words like: you, free, blog, create, win, comment, inspire… convert very well in any publication.
90% of brands describe their products by abusing adjectives on the web. Don’t do the same, it doesn’t work. Start working on your verbs, they are the ones that lead to action, take the initiative and connect with the emotions of your audience.
7. Create curiosity and expectation
And how do you do that? By being direct, getting to the point, providing value and keeping that mysterious point. You have to make your audience want more. I know it’s not easy, but you have to keep trying.
Don’t look for textbook formulas, they don’t work. Be natural, with your brand personality. It is fundamental. It will be easier for you to get responses and more leads.
8. Emotional without being overly sweet.
You need to connect with them, excite them without being overly sweet. It is a good idea to talk about the benefits of your products or services when you update on social networks. However, you should go a step further, it will help you leave an impression on them.
9. Test and analyze
Social platforms are a double-edged sword. You have more opportunities to test what works, but you also face the risk of messing up more often. You’re live and you can’t gamble.
Make sure that each text that accompanies your network update meets one of your requirements:
Is it relevant?
Is it entertaining?
Is it funny?
Is the information interesting?
Conclusion:
The best copywriting advice I can give you is to not complicate your messages. You’re on social media to connect, converse, entertain and help potential customers.
