In an interview, Harrison Ford, you may have heard of him, was asked if he would do a film that didn’t have the budget to pay him 20 million for the role? This was at the highest point in his career.
Ford ask why wouldn’t they have enough to pay him that much?
Perplexed, the interviewer simply said they don’t have that much.
Ford followed up with saying she did not understand him. He was pointing out that if he joins a project, the producers could find investors willing to bank roll that project enough to pay him the $20 million. Simply being attached to the project garners that much interest and momentum.
No one on any crew, anywhere, can make that same claim. I used to be one of those crew. I wouldn’t dream of making such a claim.
You get paid what you are worth usually. If not, you are doing something wrong. Again. I learned that the hard way. I undercut myself on more than a few projects, until I realized what I could demand to be paid.
